Prairie’s Student Council encourages the importance of helping others and making a difference in the community, by helping promote school-wide service projects.
Elections for Student Council representatives take place early in the fall semester. Grades 2nd-6th select two representatives from each class.
The Student Council meets monthly after school in the Prairie library. Council reps plan service projects to support United Way, Ronald McDonald Houses (RMH) and the Johnson County Christmas Bureau's canned food drive. Several times during the school year, students volunteer in the community by working at Harvesters and caroling at Brighton Gardens of Prairie Village.
The Student Council teacher sponsor is Kim Bosch.
In October, Student Council member made more than 200 “Grab-N-Go” snack bags for the families of RMH. Alan Lubert, from RMH, shared many wonderful facts about how the non-profit supports families when their loved one is in the hospital.
