About

Prairie Elementary is a K-6 school in the heart of Prairie Village, Kansas. Today, Prairie's enrollment is more than 400 students with an average class size of 21. Teacher excellence and parent involvement are key to the success of Prairie students. Upon completion of sixth grade, Prairie students attend Indian Hills Middle School and Shawnee Mission East High School.

Prairie's long history dates back to the 1800s. In 1866, a one-room school house was built at 67th and Mission Road, and served children and families from the surrounding farming communities. The building also served as a church and community center.
